WHAT IS BLACKBELT WRITER?
The Blackbelt Total Writing System walks you through seven "belt levels." On each level you work through lessons to master essential principles like "Earn transformations" and "Begin the end with a critical decision." The idea is every lesson can be applied immediately. The belt levels break down as follows:
On WHITE you learn how to find your best idea.
On GREEN you learn how to build a world.
On ORANGE you learn character design.
On PURPLE you learn how to write dialogue.
On BLUE you learn plot construction.
On RED you learn how to make your story meaningful.
On BROWN you learn how to build a writing life.
What makes Blackbelt Writer so effective is not the originality of the fundamentals covered. It's how simply the principles are stated, how fully explained and how cleanly organized the entire course is. The difference between merely getting the gist of a principle and having total command of it is the difference between success and failure.

About Your Instructor, "The Sensei of Story"
Daniel Joshua Rubin is the founder of Blackbelt Writing Academy. Rubin built Blackbelt during a many-year break from writing to focus on mental and spiritual health. During his time away from the writing life he realized that the way creative writing is taught needs radical re-invention. The awe-inspiring avalanche of stories coming out in every conceivable media and pace of technological change is bewildering and hard on a creative soul. To address this new reality requires a comprehensive and holistic approach. These realizations inspired the creation of Blackbelt Writing Academy and Rubin's own personal, creative resurgence. He is currently working on a trilogy of scripts.
Prior to his break, Rubin reached the highest levels of television, theater, new media and publishing. He is the author of the critically acclaimed book, 27 Essential Principles of Story, Master the Secrets of Great Writing From Shakespeare to South Park (Workman Publishing). He has written for television (NBC, the WB); new media (The Motley Fool, National Lampoon); and theater (Steppenwolf). He has taught writing at Loyola University Chicago and UCSD. DJR holds an MFA in Playwriting from the Yale School of Drama, where he graduated with honors and a BS in Drama Studies from the State University of New York at Purchase.
